Karol Maciejewski
Karol is a consulting actuary in the Amsterdam office of Milliman and joined the company in 2010. He is part of the Life team and carries out consulting missions in the Netherlands and Belgium.
He is also affiliated with the Actuarial Research Group of the Catholic University of Leuven in Belgium, where he is a part-time research associate and a PhD student.
Experience
Prior to joining Milliman, Karol worked for five years as an actuary at KBC Insurance in Belgium in the non-life product department.
Karol has performed a number of actuarial consulting missions for a variety of clients in the Netherlands and Belgium, including major European insurers. He has advised clients in the areas of Prophet modeling, IFRS 4 and Analysis of Change of the provisions (local GAAP and IFRS) implementations. He has also taken part in a number of merger and acquisition projects.
He has substantial experience in non-life actuarial work (property & liability), including GLM modeling (pricing and segmentation), reserving and MC simulations for NatCatmodeling.
Additionally, he has a strong IT-related technical background and knows several programming languages (among others, C, VB/VBA), databases (SQL) and statistical and actuarial software packages, including SAS and Prophet. He has also worked in the role of business analyst as a liaison between product actuarial and ICT departments in a big international software design and implementation project.
He is fluent in English and Polish, has a communicative knowledge of Dutch.
Karol has supported teaching activities at the Catholic University of Leuven in the actuarial education programs (courses, exams). He is also working on several academic publications in the course of his doctoral studies.
